Saying goodbye...

If you've known me for any amount of time, you probably know that I am a huge Denver Broncos fan, and have been since I was eight years old. From watching them lose three Super Bowls in the 80's then wearing my bright orange Elway jersey to school the next day (not smart btw), to watching them finally win it all in '98 and '99 and every game in-between - I've bled orange and blue. However, I am sorry to report that after twenty-six years, my allegiance to the Broncos has come to an end. For the last two years, I've watched with horror as the team that I loved was driven into the ground by a new coach, then seemingly brought back to life when John Elway came back only to then be turned over to Mr. Tebow - I simply cannot cheer for a man who is so outspoken about his belief that I'm going to burn in Hell for eternity. John Elway is well known to be the biggest Republican in the state of Colorado, but never once did he go on TV and say "Vote for Bush!". He didn't bring it onto the field, and as such was the QB every Bronco fan - no matter what they believed - could cheer for. To paraphrase a quote from Star Wars, the Broncos are going down a path I cannot follow. After last week when they beat the Steelers in the playoffs and in dramatic fashion, I felt nothing. Then last night when they were blown out by the Patriots, I felt nothing. The reason for that? I have finally realized they are no longer my team. And so I say goodbye...

However, I love football and I miss cheering for a team and feeling the highs and lows that it brings. I have decided to root for my (sort of) hometown team, the Carolina Panthers. They have a bright future, we can go to games since the in-laws live in Charlotte, and most importantly - I like their Quarterback's touchdown dance a whole lot more than Mr. Tebow's...
