I am declaring victory over my many aliments - if for no other reason than I haven't been sick for week and it's FINALLY starting to warm up around here. This winter has truly been the worst I've ever experienced here in South Carolina. Of course since it didn't compare to any winter in Maryland I guess my blood truly has thinned. One of my symptoms during my prolonged illnesses was a complete and utter intolerance of cold - whether it be in the house, office or outside, the only time I felt warm in the last three months has been in a hot shower. With that in mind, so help me I'm actually looking forward to the sweltering Lowcountry heat that I know is almost upon us. I truly can't wait to step outside after being in the office for a few hours and being hit with a blast of hot, humid air that fogs up my glasses instantly. Yes, I'll probably feel differently in August.
In any case, the only good news to come from my umpteen visits to various Doctors to try to find out what the hell was wrong with me is that I've had nearly every test known to man performed on me and have passed with flying colors, including getting my Triglycerides down from 320 nine months ago to 115 currently. It involved changing many of my eating habits as well as letting go of my love for Mt. Dew but it was necessary to make sure I'm around to see my baby grow up.
Speaking of whom, Macias continues to be the biggest joy in my life right now. Just the other day Allison and I were playing with him on the couch, and the TV was on but muted. I saw Star Wars was coming on Spike TV, so when the "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" words came on, I turned the volume on. As STAR WARS came on and the theme started to play, Macias stopped what he was doing, turned and looked at the TV for a moment, then completely bypassed Allison and looked over at me with a huge grin on his face as if to say "Daddy! Look what's on!!" (he may have heard the theme music once or twice). I'm not ashamed to say I teared up a little, much like I will during our first lightsaber battle I imagine. Technically, we've already had one, but it was with glow sticks.
Tomorrow is my 32nd birthday, and while I thought turning thirty was old, this is even worse. Did you know I can't eat pizza after 8PM or I'll pay for it later that night? When the hell did that start? I also have lower back pain when I wake up in the morning. Used to be I could sleep upside down and in a pretzel knot and get a good eight hours - not anymore. My hope is that as my son grows up and is more active outside it will force me to be more active outside as well and hopefully I can stave off the process of my body breaking down a little longer. Well anyway, as long as someone finds time to make her famous birthday chocolate raspberry cupcakes it will be a great day no matter what….
