Barack Star

Allison and I attended Sen. Barack Obama's campaign rally at a Beaufort high school this afternoon. We stood in line with easily over 1,000 people for over an hour, braving the cold wind and rain, waiting patiently to move through the metal detectors. We finally made it into the gymnasium, where we were all packed in like sardines but no one seemed to really mind. Finally after a few introductions he came out to a thunderous ovation, and proceeded to deliver his stump speech. Even though I'd heard it several times before, it was still stirring and several times he whipped the crowd up into a frenzy. After his speech he took some questions from the audience, then when it was over he went around the room, shaking hands and signing autographs. We made our way down to the very end of the line and made idle conversation with a uniformed Secret Service agent for what seemed like forever. Finally he made his way over to us and just before he left the gym I got to shake his hand and wish him luck. He said thank you :)
I was really glad that we got a chance to see him, and hopefully I just shook hands with the next President of the United States....
